Posted February 23, 2018 05:59:52A new bill filed by Rep. Steve Pearce, R-Texas, would allow hunters to sell their animals to raise money for charity.
The Texas Tribune reports the bill would make it a felony to sell, transfer, offer for sale or possess a live animal in Texas.
Pearce said the bill has no bearing on hunting in Texas and is meant to protect Texans who are hunters.
“I don’t think anyone should be able to take their hunting license away from them,” Pearce told the Tribune.
“And if you can’t get a hunting license, how can you hunt?”
“It’s a slippery slope.
It’s just wrong.”
The Texas Legislature approved the bill in a House committee earlier this year.
The Senate passed the bill last week but has yet to take it up.
